Japanese experts to talk at water seminar

Japanese water management experts will tomorrow impart their knowledge at the "Water Resource Management System Strategy" seminar in Bangkok.

The event is part of the government’s effort to boost investor confidence in Thailand’s flood management and preventive measures after the severe inundation last year.
The meeting will be emceed by Commerce Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong, who is also chairman of the Strategic Formulation Committee for Reconstruction and Future Development.
He will deliver the closing remarks and give businesses a chance to ask questions about the government’s water management policies.
The event will use Siam Niramit's facility, as it can accommodate a large number of participants.
Companies from every industry, particularly from the seven industrial estates that were seriously flooded, have been invited.
The keynote speaker from Japan is Kimio Takeya, a senior officer of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, who will talk on the “Practical experience from a flood-prone country, Japan”.
Representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation will discuss “Building a safer country by best mix of structural and non-structural measures including integrated river basin information handling” and “Recommendation on strengthening the protection of industrial zones”.
Officials from the Japan Water Agency will give a briefing on the “Cutting-edge technology of rain forecasting”, while academics from the University of Tokyo will present their research findings on “Reservoir operation for future flood”.
From the Thai side, Chukiat Sapphaisal of the Strategic Formulation Committee for Water Resources Management will give a speech on “Basic concept for Chao Phraya river basin flood control master plan and preparation for next rainy season”.
