Customs Department director-general Somchai Poolsavasdi said on Wednesday that trade facilitation is a global issue in line with an increase in global trade. International organisations have pushed for single standards to reduce redundancy and transaction cost, while customs procedures are streamlined. Accordingly, the department is committed to adopt the World Customs Organisation's Framework of Standard to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade in logistics improvement. The national single window was created to facilitate trade and increase the national competitiveness.
Under the AEO programme, private companies are invited to voluntarily join the project. They must come under self assessment to enhance safety measure. This will be verified by the department before the certificates are issued. Winning the certificates, they are entitled to some clearance privileges.
