True spreads broadband to provinces

True Online has spent Bt8 billion this year mainly on the expansion of its broadband Internet network to cover provincial customers.

Starting from the 30 provinces that the True Corp unit is currently serving, the network will be fully established in 36 provinces this quarter, 60 provinces next year and all provinces by 2014.
The subscriber base will be boosted to 1.6 million from 1.34 million last year, of whom 1 million were in Bangkok.
The total market is about 3.6 million broadband Internet subscribers.
Of the estimated 600,000 subscribers entering the market this year, True Online aims to snare half of them.
The company is shooting for 20-per-cent revenue growth to Bt12 billion this year from Bt10.7 billion last year, when its gross profit margin was 40 per cent.
Charoen Limkangwanmongkol, chief commercial officer, said yesterday that the company did not compete on price but on higher connection speeds, which would be doubled to 200 megabits per second this year.
