In cooperation with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, the project started to enlist participants in July 2010. Three schools, two TV stations, three TV production companies (including JSL Global Media and Workpoint Entertainment), three hospitals including Bangkok Hospital, four universities (Chulalongkorn, Kasetsart, Thammasat and Assumption), and two shopping complexes (CentralWorld and Siam Paragon) took part.
Energy Minister Arak Chonlatanon said that since July 2010, 114 initiatives and campaigns had been launched that saved about 20 million units of energy, or Bt65 million per annum. The initiatives that cost Bt290 million helped reduce carbon emission by 11,000 tonnes per annum. Of the total investment, Bt155 million came from the Energy Conservation Fund.
“BEAT 2010 reflects cooperation by all parties and their cooperation shows concrete results. The benefits are not only for the participants, but the entire public, the country and our world in tackling global warming,” the minister said. Aside from raising awareness among their human resources, the project is a great success as all 17 organisations are committed to continuing with their initiatives even after the end of the project.
