China set to boost its green products

As existing and new building owners seek to become more environmentally friendly, green construction materials are enjoying higher popularity. At an upcoming fair, visitors will be treated to products from China.

A China Pavilion will be erected as part of the 2nd International Exhibition and Conference on Green Building & Retrofits Expo Asia 2012, from September 19-21.

Steven Chwee, general manager of CMC Exhibition Services Pte Ltd, which is co-organising the event with Impact Exhibition Management Co Ltd, said the Green Building market in Southeast Asia is a huge and varied one, from developed green markets to new and emerging opportunities. In the region’s tropical climate, the importance of green and efficient buildings is becoming increasingly evident. Singapore, which leads the way in greening, has strong government incentives and support. Another key Southeast Asia market, Thailand, was rated one of the top 10 countries in the Carbon Development Mechanism (CDM) this year.

Thailand has placed a strong focus on industrial development and CDM projects. Earlier this month, the newly formed Thailand Green Building Institute announced a Thai-designed Green Building Rating Tools system called TREES that encourages commercial and residential facilities to get themselves green-certified. The TREES certification is backed by the Ministry of Energy.
