New disclosure rules under Asean CG Scorecard

Listed companies are advised to strengthen its information disclosure, in preparation for the implementation of the Asean Corporate Governance Scorecard.

Securities and Exchange Commission Secretary General Vorapol Socatiyanurak said that the SEC and the Thai Institute of Directors will host a seminar to educate listed companies on the Asean CG Scorecard in the middle of this year.
"Under the regional scorecard approach, points will be given to a number of areas, like the invitation to shareholders' meeting and annual reports. It would benefit listed companies if they disclose information more properly and accurately," Vorapol said.

"The SEC aims to push Thai listed companies on top of the list, to further advertise the Thai capital market to the world," he added.
Asean CG Scorecard is the joint effort of the Asean Capital Markets Forum (ACMF) in lifting up the corporate governance standard in the region, as the region is geared towards the Asean Economic Community in 2015. The scorecard is developed in line with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development standards. The first result would be revealed in 2013.

Experts to monitor the scheme will come from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
