ASSK Suu Kyi points to job creation as main priority for Myanmar

Myanmar's Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday highlighted job creation as the country's priority pointing to the high unemployment in the country.

Young people in particular are involved in drinking, drugs and gambling. They need reform as much as the country does, she said at the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012 in Bangkok.
“If they are losing hope, we’ll have a big problem,” she explained, noting that jobs will empower the Myanmar people and that will ensure real democracy in her country.
“We need jobs, as many jobs as possible. It’s as simple as that.” One of her main missions during her visit to Thailand was to meet with migrant workers. She also urged the international community to find ways of improving Myanmar’s education system, particularly with regard to vocational training and non-formal education.
In her view, basic skills will allow Myanmar people to take part in the ongoing political and economic reforms. She also urged the international community to pressure the military government into proceeding with the promised political and economic reforms.
