PTT begins work on LPG terminal expansion

PTT Plc has appointed Foster Wheeler (Thailand) Co Ltd the engineering consultant for its LPG terminal capacity extension at Khao Bo Ya in Chon Buri province.

Nattachart Charuchinda, COO for downstream petroleum business, said the first-phase capacity of terminal and port at Khao Bo Ya would be expanded to allow the maximum monthly import of 250,000 tonnes, from 132,000 tonnes. Set for completion in 2013, the project follows the National Energy Policy Council's resolution to accommodate higher LPG demand. In the second phase which will be completed in 2018, a new terminal and port would be constructed, to handle additional import of 250,000 tonnes a month.
The executive said that despite the huge investment, all Thais should beware that LPG is now subsidised, at the cost of Bt95 billion since 2008.
