THE NATION today launches in partnership with Eleven Media Group of Myanmar a twice-monthly supplement, "Learn English: The Asean Way".

The eight-page tabloid insert will carry news and features about Asean and the Asean Economic Community (AEC) from members of the Asia News Network – with English-learning vocabulary in Myanmar for local readers.
The supplement is inserted in the Yangon edition of the Burmese-language BiWeekly Eleven every first and third Thursday of the month. “We are pleased to be offering additional content to our readers in English so that they can familiarise themselves with Asean as Myanmar plays an increasingly important regional role,” said Dr Thein Myint, managing director of Eleven Media Group.
Pana Janviroj, president of The Nation, said the initiative complemented the joint plan by The Nation and Eleven Media to offer new media services in Myanmar and Asean. An English-language news website, www.elevenmyanmar.com, was launched recently. English-learning courses for students and businesspeople in Yangon will be launched soon through Nation University’s International Language Institute. The launch of “Learn English: The Asean Way” coincides with today’s inaugural flight of AirAsia to Mandalay from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport.
The service is part of Southeast Asia’s biggest low-cost carrier’s expansion plan to strengthen its leadership in the region before the AEC. The airline hopes to serve more cities like Nay Pyi Daw and Bagan, besides its three daily flights to Yangon.
