“The developing markets are now contributing about 20 per cent of the company’s turnover, about US$8.1 billion [Bt249 billion] last year. However, their contribution will be significantly higher in the near future and Southeast Asia will follow that umbrella,” Paul Budsworth, vice president for Southeast Asia, said yesterday.
The company, a global leader in food safety and security, facility hygiene and product protection, expects to enjoy faster growth from all developing markets, particularly Southeast Asia, compared with other regions.
Sealed Air’s business is divided into food, with 55 per cent of its global sales, protective packaging with 17 per cent and institutional business with 23 per cent.
“We have seen exciting opportunities in this part of the world. We are getting closer to customers with an ability to invent and offer better solutions to them,” he said.
T Balakrishnan, vice president for the institutional and laundry business in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Turkey, said key developing markets in Asia, especially China, India and Southeast Asia, were growing at 10-15 per cent per year.
Thailand is its largest market in the region, thanks to the fast
pace of property development, especially of office buildings, retail complexes and hospitals, he said.
Sealed Air runs two major plants in Thailand – one in Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani, for cleaning chemicals, especially floor, kitchen and laundry cleaning, and the other at Nava Nakorn Industrial Estate in northern Bangkok for protective packaging.
In the fourth quarter of last year, a locally licensed manufacturer in Malaysia was appointed to assemble a line of floor-care machines under the Taski brand to cash in on the Asean Economic Community, which will combine Asean nations into one single market in 2015.
Taski is Diversey’s global flagship brand for world-class floor-care systems. Diversey boasts more than 100 years of global leadership in floor care and Taski solutions are backed by more than 50 years of innovation, proven technology and superior manufacturing and reliability, Sealed Air says. Taski has belonged to Sealed Air since last October.
Sealed Air yesterday launched its new line of Taski floor-care machines.
“For the first time, we are offering customers in Thailand a fully integrated floor-care solution that delivers a superior suite of tools to meet their floor-care needs,” Budsworth said. “Thailand marks the first stop in our Southeast Asian product launch to deliver a winning solution that combines technology, quality, reliability and service to our customers in the region.”
