Diesel tax to be levied in October: Tanusak

Deputy Finance Minister Tanusak Lek-uthai hinted that the government may narrow the diesel excise tax cut in October.

The excise tax of Bt5 per litre has been waived for over 12 months, to keep retail diesel prices below Bt30 per litre.
Tanusak on Wednesday said that in October, the government plans to levy Bt1.50 per litre.
Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva mentioned the possible levy during the budget bill scrutiny.

However, Tanusak said that retail prices will unnecessarily rise beyond Bt30 per litre due to the levy.

He sent a message that the Oil Fund will be used to shoulder the differential.
"The Oil Fund's financial status is in the positive territory and it should enjoy net inflows in the next four months," he said.
