Finance to take action against a tax scam

A group of some 30 individuals have colluded to rob the Revenue Department, according to Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong.

These people forged VAT documents and claimed rebates worth Bt2.6 billion from the department, he said on Friday.
The Finance Ministry will lodge a charge against the individuals, he said. He added that there is a possibility that government officials may have taken part in the scam.
"Normally, exporters paid VAT before making the shipments of their products. But these people had no underlying business but filed tax claims. This is a more serious crime than tax evasion. We will need to take this case seriously," he said.
