Thai digital content set for Vegas show

Thailand will promote its digital-content industry to the international market next week by joining the three-day Licensing Expo, the world's biggest showcase for copyright trading, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Thai digital content has attracted strong interest in the world market and is gaining more recognition because of its quality and creativity. The expo should help Thai digital content to go international,” Deputy Commerce Minister Natthawut Saikua said yesterday.
Under the theme of “Thai Boxing”, 14 local production houses will showcase their work at the event, which is expected to generate at least Bt200 million in immediate sales for the industry.
According to a survey by the Intellectual Property Department, Thailand’s animation, game and e-learning products are worth US$500 million (Bt16.5 billion), or only  about 0.25 per cent of the $200-billion global digital-content market.
Thailand has a good chance of expanding its worldwide market share to 1-2 per cent in a few years because of improved efficiency and more creative promotions, Natthawut said.
Pajchima Tanasanti, director-general of the department, said it chose to use the
theme of Thai boxing, or Muay Thai, as it is one of the most popular Thai combat sports among foreigners. Thai boxing is a martial art of Thailand, reflecting its people’s wisdom and creativity.
To promote Thai intellectual property, the government will continue to assist innovators and enterprises to attend international exhibitions.
