First rise in industrial sentiment in 4 months

Thailand Industrial Sentiment Index rose in May, the first time in four months, thanks to the weakening baht and a cut in the policy rate.

Payungsak Chartsutipol, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries, said that industrial operators are still concerned with global economic direction, domestic political stability and volatility in the dollar/baht rate.
"They were the most concened with the currency volatility. Others were the global economic condition, oil prices, domestic political stability and lending rates. They showed greater concerns on global economy and politics at home," he said.
The sentiment towards the business condition in the next three months also improved, with an increase in overall orders, output and profits amid a lower operating cost.
