They made the agreement late last month at the fourth meeting of a joint committee on coordination and assignment of frequencies along the border.
According to the MPT, the 850-megahertz signal of |Total Access Communica-|tions (DTAC) in Nong Khai |has interrupted the 900MHz operation of the Enterprise |of Telecommunications Lao in Vientiane province for two years. This has affected ETL subscribers.
Thanapant Raichareon, deputy secretary-general of the NBTC, said DTAC and ETL had agreed to lower the transmission power of their mobile-phone signals to avoid the interference. They will also harmonise services for maximisation of frequency utilisation.
Moreover, the NBTC has proposed that the joint committee should meet more than once a year to collaborate and seek solutions to border issues.
He said the commission also proposed providing opportunities for staff exchanges with the MPT and training courses to enhance their close relationship and cooperation.
