Celebs' books and graphic-story books sold well at Book Expo

The 18th Book Expo Thailand 2013 had welcomed 1.4 million visitors in the first six days, with celebrities' books and graphic-story books being the top sellers.

Staged at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, the book fair will run through October 27.

The Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand, which organises the event, said that the number of visitors is higher than expected.
Charun Homthienthong, president of the association attributed the success to the launch of new books and two highlights - the 40th anniversary of the October 14 uprising as well as the Book Wonderland.
"Several publishers had to file new orders, as all stocks are cleaned up," he said.
Aside from celebrities' diaries, graphic-story books and language handbooks are the best-selling. Charun said that the Asean Economic Community had created the wave of interest for neighbouring countries' languages. Dhamma books also witnessed an increasing sale, in light of economic troubles.
He added that the sale of novels, which still dominate the largest portion of the book industry's sale, is quite stabilised after exorbitant growth in the past 3-4 years.
