Number of new factories in August falls

The Industrial Works Department reported on Monday a decrease of eight per cent in the number of new factories opening in Thailand in August compared to the same period last year.
Pasu Loharnchun, the department’s director general, also noted that the value of investment had dropped by 38 per cent, due to the new regulations in applying for permits, under which entrepreneurs are required to conduct public opinion surveys among communities in the area.
However, the department believes that once the processes are better understood the number of new factories will increase.
The department is also confident the number of new factories will increase by five per cent in the final four months of the year thanks to the country’s newfound stability.
