New shopping site uses 'points' as currency

A new concept in e-commerce using credit or debit cards was announced yesterday. The new service, ABCPoint.com, is provided by Asset Bright (ABC), formerly known as Bangkok Nylon.

Deputy managing director Kantaporn Tongman said the system used “ABC points” as currency at its online shopping site, www.abcpoint.com. They will use their credit cards to acquire these points in a few different ways, including a straight purchase for Bt1 each.
ABCPoint.com now has more than 200 products available for purchase.
“We are in the process of working with credit-card issuers to collaborate on transferring their points into ABC points and then turning ABC points into cash at the end,” Kantaporn said.
“Our revenue stream comes from trading as usual. We do online trading with end customers by offering premium products. We buy products to sell on our website the same as at retail stores, but shoppers are required to use points for payment.”
ABC has some business partners. SPVI, operator of iStudio, and Minor International provide premium information-technology gadgets and fashions for www.abcpoint.com.
“We are still open for partners, they are welcome,” Kantaporn said.
She added that the company had invested more than Bt50 million to set up the IT system and e-commerce infrastructure to ensure the speed and security of its online shopping.
The ABC Point service will be available next month.
