The latest technology is called a “robotic studio”. This will improve newsroom management and control data and information on the TV screen to make sure people can get news updates immediately.
In November, the TV station will revamp its programming to cater to increasing news consumption. About 30 per cent of its airtime will be dedicated for new programmes such as documentaries.
Watanya Wongopai, vice chairman for business management of Spring News Corporation, said Spring News TV would also change its image to improve viewers’ experience and to raise awareness of the channel.
The company has also earmarked about Bt30 million to operate a radio station, and is in talks with a couple of frequency holders on co-production of content for them. The deals are expected to be complete soon. The radio stations will be run by its sister company, Spring News Multimedia, wholly owned by its parent company Solution Corner (1998), which is listed on the Market for Alternative Investment. Solution Corner established this new subsidiary with registered capital of Bt20 million.
The subsidiary will also operate and manage new multimedia platforms such as mobile TV in taxis and office elevators. The new platforms will help Spring News TV distribute its content to a wider audience, particularly high-income earners in Bangkok.
Last year, Spring News aired on the satellite-TV platform, and generated Bt100 million in income. With this 24-hour news station now on the digital terrestrial platform, the company expects to control 1 per cent of the market.
After the recession in media industry caused by a 9-per-cent drop in advertising spending due to the delay of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission’s free-voucher programme, Spring News acknowledged that its earnings this year now are expected to be lower than a previous projection of Bt300 million.
