Bangkok Media and Broadcasting, the operator of PPTV, a digital channel offering variety programmes in high definition, will invest about Bt500 million in new studios to expand its production capacity in the near future.
The project is expected to be finalised this month before starting construction next year, to be complete within the next couple of years. The production complex will be erected on 7 rai (1.12 hectares) on Rama IX in Bangkok and will house five studios.
This investment excludes the cost of TV production equipment such as light and sound systems.
This new production facility will be the company’s third base of operations. The other two are in Ocean Tower with two studios in the Asoke area and a new office with a studio on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road.
Company president Kematat Paladesh said yesterday that it had invested Bt300 million in the three existing studios since early this year.
Apart from the investment on the new TV production facility, the company has earmarked about Bt1 billion for new content including its own productions and foreign programmes.
Kematat added that the company was preparing eight to 10 Thai soap operas, with the first series to be screened in the second quarter of next year. Next month, PPTV will revamp its programming to boost its audience ratings by adding new Korean drama series to be aired every day instead of only on weekdays. The new series are “Can We Fall in Love Again?”, “All My Love”, “Golden Rainbow”, “Triangle”, “God’s Gift – 14 Days”, “Emergency Couple” and “The Blade and Petal”.
Next year, the company will focus on local content such as Thai reality shows and sports programmes.
To increase the number of viewers, PPTV will install at least 500 TV sets at branches of the Bangkok Hospital network and more than 100 in Bangkok Airways lounges. Through this strategy, PPTV aims to reach more than 21,250 extra viewers a day.
The company aims to be one of the top five digital-terrestrial TV broadcasters next year.
