Energy Minister Narongchai Akrasanee said the move would not affect the retail price of diesel and would only bring the diesel excise up to the same level of gasoline excise, in line with the policy of the National Energy Policy Committee chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The committee approved the ministry’s proposal to adjust the excise on diesel and gasoline to between Bt2.85 and Bt5.55 per litre. Once the global price of oil drops further, the Energy Policy Administration Committee will pass a resolution to raise diesel excise again and forward the resolution to the Cabinet for approval.
Excise on gasoline 95 is at Bt5.60 per litre, while that of gasohol 95 and 91 stays the same at Bt5.04 per litre, E20 Bt4.48 per litre, and diesel Bt3.25 per litre, up by 75 satang as of December 16.
As of Friday, the contribution of gasoline 95 to the Oil Fund was Bt9.15 per litre, gasohol 95 Bt3.65 per litre, gasohol 91 Bt2.25 per litre, E20 20 satang per litre and diesel Bt2.45 per litre. The fund had a positive balance of net Bt14.234 billion as of December 21.
