Govt urged to revise petroleum resource allocation, price structure

AT A meeting held yesterday between the government and opposition groups to find a solution to the 21st round of petroleum concession bidding, the critics urged the government to revise the allocation of petroleum resources as well as the price structure

The opponents also asked the government to revise its policy regarding the oil fund and avoid any conflict of interest.
The price structure in allocating petroleum resources should put benefit for the people as top priority, they said.
Thais currently use LPG at imported price, which is quite expensive and unfair.
The price of natural gas purchased from the gas field is higher compared to the world market price and this has caused the production cost for LPG in Thailand to be higher than the world market price, and this is not reflected in the real cost.
Both the government and the opposition also agreed to amend the 1971 Petroleum Act, as well as the 1971 Petroleum Income Tax Act, and any law regarding energy and conflict of interest.
The opposition also urged the government to manage petroleum resources and keep a close watch on its possible impact on the environment, community rights and hygiene.
