BOT boss selection looms The 23rd governor of the Bank of Thailand could be named in three weeks, Finance Minister Sommai Phasee said yesterday.

“Up to now, I haven’t received a report on the result of the selection for the new governor of the Bank of Thailand,” he said.
If the shortlist of candidates reaches him, there would be three weeks left to pick only one for nomination to the Cabinet on July 2.
Paiboon Kittisrikangwan, an assistant governor at the central bank, and Veerathai Santiprabhob, an adviser to the Thailand Development Research Institute, were reportedly picked as nominees after the selection committee’s meeting on Tuesday concluded the screening process.
Prasarn Trairatvorakul will end his four-year term as governor on September 30.

Myanmar ports deal

The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) and the Myanmar Port Authority (MPA) have agreed to cooperate on border trade and cross-border trading facilities.
Last week, Kamolsak Promprayoon, deputy director-general of PAT, and Kyaw Myint, managing director of MPA, signed a letter of cooperation in Myanmar, indicating that the facilities can be a choice for freight forwarders and international logistics services providers.
The agreement would also help boost the efficiency of container shipping between Thailand’s Ranong Port and Myanmar’s Yangon Port.
Under the agreement, both nations would exchange information regarding management and the operation of terminal ports as well as new technologies to be applied to the industry in the future.
Cooperation on marketing campaigns and promotions, new market development, and training courses and employee exchanges will also be included. To make the cooperation more concrete, the two countries would hold biennial meetings, with each country alternating as the host.

Phuket Marina project

Royal Phuket Marina has launched a five-year, Bt5 billion investment plan under the #DestinationRPM campaign to position the complex as a leading destination in Asia.
The facilities include two hotels, a low-rise condominium development, a first-of-its kind water facility, marina expansion and the addition of a state-of-the-art children’s zone.
“The Bt5 billion planned investment over the next five years is part of my vision to make Royal Phuket Marina an iconic waterfront lifestyle destination.
“Under our #DestinationRPM campaign, Royal Phuket Marina will become a destination in its own right – a thriving residential and business community, and a destination that will support Phuket tourism attracting visitors from around the world,” Gulu Lalvani, chairman of Royal Phuket Marina, said yesterday.
