This is the second consecutive year Banpu has secured a high ranking, confirming the company’s commitment to business sustainability. In addition, the company has been awarded the Industry Leader and Gold Class Sustainability Award 2015 in the coal and consumable fuels sector from RobecoSAM.
According to the DJSI’s report, Banpu was selected based on an assessment of the company’s exemplary economic, social and environmental contributions to the energy sector in Thailand. “It is a great honour to achieve listing on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, not only once but to keep it again this year, and the inclusion reflects our team’s strong commitment to sustainability throughout our business, wherever we operate,” said CEO Somruedee Chaimongkol.
“For Banpu, sustainability means long-term existence. This is not just a stated goal idea but is substantiated by our three key pillars: business performance, people, and corporate culture. It is our ambition not just to exist in the long run, but to create sustainable growth and development for society, the environment and our stakeholders. “Banpu believes that being proactive, striving for quality excellence, developing an internationally accepted framework, and flexibility are all fundamental to sustainable growth and achievement of the goal of becoming a leading regional player in the energy industry,” she said.
Banpu launched its sustainable development policy in 2006, and set up a committee in 2008 to analyse the company’s strategic position and sustainable growth direction in order to define a set of common goals.
