Art opens new world for the underprivileged

The SCG Foundation celebrated the 10th year of its Art Camp project with a workshop for underprivileged children.

Suvimol Chivalux, director and manager of the SCG Foundation, said: “This year, we extend our support to the underprivileged, to give them new chances. We also instil an awareness of social responsibility to the recipients of the foundation’s scholarships.”

Joining hands with famous artists, including Sangkhom Thongmee, and art students who won the foundation’s scholarships, a workshop was organised for 83 children from 12 communities in Bangkok and children from Tawanmai Foundation.

Paiboon Thamruangrit, an artist, said there were few workshops for underprivileged children. “It’s an opportunity to help children to unleash their positive thinking about their community environment.”

The children received advice on drawing and colouring under the “Dream Community” theme.

“I learned new techniques. I learned about working with others,” said Wanwisa Kerdmongkol from Rongwai Community.

The art camp project was initiated to equip young enthusiasts with the right techniques, as they pursued education in the field. In the past years, students from all parts of Thailand were selected for the camp where they spent three days in learning new techniques and knowledge necessary for their exams. Assisting the project were real-life artists, including national artists.
