Author of business management aims to sell his books in 100 countries

WITH just Bt300,000 seed money, Damrong Pinkoon started his small business - Rester massage chairs - in 1998. After years of trials and errors, he learned valuable business lessons, and his thoughts travelled to 44 countries to give encouragement and happ

Damrong has set his sights on his books going to more than 100 countries within five years.
“I decided to start my own business with an initial investment of Bt300,000 and three staff, even though many local businesses were frozen by the severe impact of the Asian financial crisis in 1998. I believe that every dark tunnel has a light of hope.”
During the crisis, people were seeking relaxation, and the Rester massage chair offered the right solution, he explained.
Five years later, his company’s sales reached Bt120 million, while his company offered career opportunities to more than a hundred people.
It was not luck, though.
“I did market research before starting my business to ensure that everything was right on track. Given my direct experience through such a difficult situation, now I am able to share great ideas about business management,” he said.
However, his business success did not seem to satisfy him.
“At that moment, I could not find a way to be happy even though I had a very great life such as driving a luxury car, wearing brand-name watches and clothes, and having lunch or dinner at fine restaurants,” he said.
Therefore, Damrong decided to hand his business over to his beloved wife and create a new empire with his passion in writing and creative ideas. He admitted that his ideas and writing skills could not turn his dream into reality, so he took a seven-day course in graphic design. Then he established his own publishing company to produce and market his books.
“Great ideas must be easy to read and get inspired from. Meaningful graphic design is also important to grab the attention of readers once my books are displayed along with a number of books on highly competitive shelves,” he said.
With their good design and universally meaningful words, not only do Thai readers love his books but foreigners feel the same.
In Thailand, the best-selling books are novels, dharma practices and lessons, and psychology/how-to/self-improvement volumes, while international markets’ best-selling titles are fiction and business management/self-improvement. Luckily, his books have been among the best-selling titles internationally. While the local book market is growing more slowly, demand is still increasing overseas. To exp and his reader base, he travels every year to many countries to join international shows such as the London and Frankfurt book fairs to introduce his books.
His books have been translated into several languages including Italian, Russian, Chinese, Portuguese, Brazilian, Czech and Japanese and distributed in 44 countries across the globe.
By 2020, he hopes his creative ideas and knowledge will hit the shelves in more than 100 countries through a number of his well-known books such as “Rich Legend”, “Dream Come True”, “Marketing Idea”, “Creative Management”, “Devil’s Strategy”, and ‘What Is in Your Head”.
His new company is kept busy just publishing his own books. At last, the businessman-cum-writer has witnessed both success and happiness.
