INDUSTRIALISATION SHOULD BE PRIME DRIVER OF INDONESIA’S ECONOMY: KEIN

The National Economic and Industry Committee (KEIN) has said industrialisation should be the locomotive pulling Indonesia’s economic growth.
KEIN chairman Sutrisno Bachir said Indonesia could no longer rely on raw commodity exports to boost the country’s economic growth amid a sluggish global economy.
Sutrisno said the newly established committee was set to compose a re-industrialisation roadmap as part of its effort to analyse the government’s plan to boost domestic manufacturing.
“KEIN will actively provide strategic input in the fields of the economy and industry, not only in the form of papers, but also directly to all communities and regions,” he said. - The Jakarta Post

AIRLINES SHOULD NOT RAISE FARES AFTER REVIEW: LIOW
Airlines should not increase their fares as the aviation industry gets set for a “one-fold” fee review by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
The Transport Minister said DCA’s “maximum one-fold” air navigation facility charges (ANFC) hike would only cost a “small fraction” to the airlines, adding that the new fees would be the minimum the government could exact.
ANFC, which involved charging airlines that fly into Malaysian airspace, have not been revised since 1970.
DCA operates yearly with a 250-million-ringgit (Bt2.25-trillion) budget but only makes RM50 million from its fees. The remaining RM200 milion is subsidised by the government. – The Star

INDONESIA, EU TO DISCUSS TRADE PACT DURING JOKOWI VISIT
Indonesian officials will discuss the initial phase of the comprehensive economic partnership agreement with the EU (CEPA) with its European partners during President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s visit next week, Trade Minister Thomas Lembong has said.
The government has 14 issues to discuss with the EU, including non-tariff barriers as a priority topic.
“Once the scoping paper is finished, the next step is formal negotiations, possibly running for two years, then finalisation and ratification,” Thomas said after a press conference on Jokowi’s working visit to four European countries at the State Palace on Friday.
The scoping paper phase, Thomas continued, aims to determine the desire of each party to enact the comprehensive economic partnership. – The Jakarta Post

LAO FILM INDUSTRY TARGETS AEC PARTNERSHIPS
The Asean Economic Community (AEC) is affecting many business sectors in Laos including the emerging film industry. So how do Lao filmmakers plan to keep up with the AEC?
To adapt to the AEC, leading director Anixay Keola told Vientiane Times that Lao filmmakers could seek funding partners from foreign countries. The production of “Saynam Lai” was a co-production between Laos and Japan, which helped generate more revenue in addition to income from the Lao film release.
“At the very least, the country that is co-producing with us will try to release the movie in their country too,” Anixay said.
He said co-producing with other Asean countries was slowly happening with Laos and Thailand having previously produced many films together. “Lao Art Media is preparing a movie with Brunei to be filmed in Laos,” Anixay added. – Vientiane Times
