AirAsia income soars six-fold in first quarter

AirAsia posted an almost six-fold increase in its earnings for the first quarter to 877.8 million ringgit (about Bt7.7 million), mainly due to higher revenue and lower fuel prices.
The low-cost airline said the surge in its net profit was attributed to a 31-per-cent increase in revenue to 1.7 billion ringgit, as well as a 29-per-cent drop in the average fuel price to $56 from $79 per barrel a year ago.
In its announcement to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, AirAsia said its increase in revenue was supported by a 17-per-cent growth in passenger volume and higher average fares, up 11 per cent at 166 ringgit as compared with 150 ringgit in the first quarter of last year, – The Star
