Dept, bank back SMEs’ foreign expansion

The Commerce Ministry’s International Trade Promotion Department and Siam Commercial Bank are collaborating to help small and medium-sized enterprises expand into international trade, focusing on Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of the department, said that with its network of overseas branches, SCB would support SMEs with a total complement of financial solutions, including international services.
The effort aims to promote SME networking for mutual support across businesses to strengthen their effective expansion in global markets. Food and beverages will take the lead in the initial promotion, followed by other high-potential sectors.
Vipon Vorasowharid, SCB first executive vice president and head of the SME segment, said the bank emphasised support for SMEs reaching their full potential, particularly expanding trade and investment bases in foreign markets.
SCB says many of its SME clients have successfully scaled up their businesses abroad. These efforts are constantly growing, especially in the food and beverage sector, which has seen outstanding growth.
