BOI APPLICATIONS ON  MED PRODUCTS JUMP

Investment on medical products in Thailand that applied for tax privileges from the Board of Investment reached Bt5.1 billion during the past seven months, up 252 per cent from Bt1.45 billion in the same period last year.

 
Hirunya Suchinai, secretary-general of the BOI, said yesterday that among the projects her agency was supporting was the project to manufacture up to 50,000 intraocular lenses per year. 
It will be the first time such lenses will be produced here. They are implanted in the eye to treat cataracts or myopia.
The product is expected to be available in the local market in January 2018 and 80 per cent of the output is expected to serve domestic demand.
 
MALEE, MEGA LIFESCIENCES TO SET UP JOINT VENTURE 
Malee Group and Mega Lifesciences will set up a 49:51 joint venture called Mega Malee Company to develop health-related natural foods and beverages for both local and international markets.
Malee and Mega Lifesciences separately filed to the Stock Exchange of Thailand yesterday their board resolutions on the JV and the details of the agreement. 
Initial investment is put at Bt10 million.

TALK ON US ELECTION
“Trump or Clinton? Who will be the next US president and what will it mean to the world and global economy?” will be the subject of a special talk by Gerard Baker, editor-in-chief of The Wall Street Journal.
The event will be held by the Wharton Club of Thailand on September 15.
New York-based Baker, who will be coming on an Asian tour, will share his insights on the unprecedented storylines in this year’s presidential race and how the two candidates are reshaping the United States and the world. 
He will also have a conversation with Nation Multimedia Group’s Suthichai Yoon.
The talk will take place in the evening at the Renaissance Hotel on Rajdamri Intersection.

RJH APPOINTS IPO 
UNDERWRITERS
Rajthanee Hospital yesterday appointed four underwriters for its planned initial public offering of 74.99 million shares at a price of Bt16 per share.
Thanachart Securities is the financial adviser and lead underwriter, while KT ZMICO Securities, Bualuang Securities and Asia Plus Securities are co-underwriters. 
Subscription will be opened from Wednesday tomorrow to Friday and the hospital is expected to make its debut on the Stock Exchange of Thailand next month. 
RJH netted Bt63.77 million on revenue of Bt1.03 billion last year. In the first quarter, it posted revenue of Bt298.14 million and profit of Bt39.01 million.
