STANDARD Chartered Bank announced the appointment of Plakorn Wanglee as chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Thailand) and its representative offices effective yesterday.

He is based in Bangkok, reporting to Ajay Kanwal, StanChart’s regional CEO for Asean and South Asia.
In his role as CEO for the bank in Thailand, Plakorn will be responsible for developing and executing the strategy for the business; building relationships with local clients and businesses, as well as regulators and stakeholders; and bottom-line profitability and capital.
He will also oversee the bank’s representative offices in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. This is in addition to his current responsibilities as head of international corporates in Thailand.
Plakorn brings with him more than 23 years of professional experience in the banking and finance industry, with extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, debt, equity, and markets transactions for Thai and international corporations as well as financial institutions.
As head of international corporates, he has played a key role in strengthening relationships with corporates and financial institutions as well as enhancing the bank’s capacity in offering excellence in products and services. In this role, he will continue to report to Patrick Lee, head of corporate and institutional banking in Singapore and head of international corporates in Asean.
“As we renew our leadership in Thailand, we look forward to having Plakorn assume the role of chief executive officer in Thailand,” Kanwal said.
“We will focus on further enhancing the value that we deliver to our clients by driving trade and investment in the region and supporting them as they expand across Asean and beyond.”
