BEC WORLD, operator of Channel 3, is restructuring to boost revenue in this period of heavy competition for the television broadcasting industry, group chief executive officer Prachum Maleenont said in an interview yesterday.

He said that earlier, the group had allowed all of its subsidiaries to manage their own businesses, but now the company had |restructured so that all opera-tions are managed by six group executives.
Under the new system, there will be six business units.
The unit overseen by the chief operating officer will be responsible for all television operations, both analog and digital, namely Channel 3, Channel 13, Channel 28 and Channel 33.
The chief commercial officer will oversee the business unit responsible for marketing, events, and all other activities aimed at bringing in income to the group.
The chief technology and new-media officer will oversee new business platforms such as websites.
The chief strategy officer will be in charge of the group’s overall business plan and strategy, while the chief support officer will oversee back-office operations such as accounting, legal, and others office operate.
Finally, the chief human-resource officer will be in charge of personnel.
After the restructuring, BEC World expects this year’s revenue to be around the same as last year, as overall advertising spending has dropped by around 10 per cent so far this year compared with 2016.
“The new business model will help us maintain our income this year and, we hope, lead to growth next year,” Prachum said.
In 2016, the company reported revenue of Bt12.53 billion and net profit of Bt1.2 billion. In the first quarter of this year, it reported revenue of Bt3 billion and net profit of Bt249 million.
Under the new structure, technology, new media, event marketing, sponsorship, and business strategy will bring in income to compensate for the likely decline in advertising revenue amid high competition in the broadcasting industry, Prachum said.
He said, however, that the new income sources would continue to relate to BEC World’s entertainment business. For example, the company will collaborate with its actors and actresses and its advertisers on its TV channels to find ways to conduct event marketing and sponsorships.
“Currently, our actors and actresses can accept jobs as presenters or brand ambassadors on their own initiative. Under our new business model, we will manage events for which our performers contract as presenters or brand ambassadors.”
The group will offer its customers a Mello application that allows them to view all of its entertainment programmes, and relaunch its Channel 3 website as www.ch3thailand.com.
The company also will develop infrastructure for new media platforms by using cloud computing.
