Restaurant enjoys success combining food, art and crafts

PIYARAT THESDONTRI, now 49, changed her career from public relations to entrepreneur early this year when she saw a business opportunity that responded to city people’s changing lifestyles by combining food, arts and crafts.

“I had planned to retire myself before I’m 50 and saw a business opportunity to open a restaurant,” she explained in a recent interview with The Nation. The result was her Food Art and Craft restaurant on Nakniwas 38 Road, which Piyarat opened early this year.
But that wasn’t her original concept.
Piyarat was planning a take-away service and negotiating with a delivery company when the potential of a new idea hit her.
Though a focus on delivery was abandoned, after achieving sales of Bt70,000 monthly for the first three months of the year, she saw the business potential and decided to stick with the restaurant.
Sales continue to increase by double digits each month, causing her to resign last month from her previous career in public relations at Siam Paragon.
“I decided to resign because I have to focus on my business. I believed that the restaurant has potential to growth for the long-term and for my daughter and son to take over the business over time,” she said.
Piyarat decided to set up her restaurant last year when she discussed the idea with her partner, Nat Panjangkakul, now 53, an experienced chef.
Piyarat’s unique idea was to open a restaurant where people could enjoy both food and the art that decorates the restaurant. The restaurant also provides customers with lifestyle activities, such as training to prepare food, paint art, and make a terrarium.
The restaurant also offers customers a delivery service.
Customer numbers increased right from the opening, as people told their friends about their experience. Others came after discovering the restaurant through Facebook and from food apps such as Panda Food and Uber Eat.
Both sales and customer numbers have increased by double digits every month since the launch.
“Our keys to success are food quality and service, along with our activities that serve the community and respond to customer’s demands,” concluded Piyarat.
