How to win versus why we fail

IN ORDER TO DRIVE business growth effectively, it is important for the team to have the right mentality towards the goal achievement. Usually past failures keep undermining the confidence level of the team and keep the responsible people away from taking risks.

For example, a quality problem that causes rejection from customers due to the defective product may cause the sales team hesitation to push the sales aggressively. Whenever there is the sales meeting, the main discussion will be concerning with why and how it happens.
Thus whenever there is discussion on strategy development, it seems to be hard to engage with all concerned towards the growth direction. The management should encourage the team to be proactive and ready to exploit the current environment to enhance the business capability. Lessons learned from the past mistakes should be used as catalyst rather than hindrance for the company to grow further.
The following are some ideas for the management to create the positive mentality on how to win in the business competition. Setting up the challenging targets – Without the right target, it is hard for employees to perform their tasks with meaningful coordination and support. As a result, effective resource management can be made to reflect the efforts of employees to achieve the target.
Promoting the optimistic mindset – Instead of spend time repeating the discussion regarding why the company failed in several aspects, the employees should be encouraged to look from the different angle towards the current challenges. The management should take the important role of providing support and tools for strategic execution.
Establishing the environmental sensitive capability – It is necessary for the company to be able to tackle the business issues from both internal and external environment. The ability to respond to both changes can lead the company to the desired goals. Therefore the top management has to ensure that the team is ready for adaptation on a timely manner.
Adopting the can-do attitude – It is easy to say everything is possible. However to get the team’s acceptance and buy-in on any difficult issues, the management may need to lead by example. Participating in detailed discussion on operational issues until the result is derived can help promote the team’s confidence that things can be done in whatever way possible.
The business success can also depend on how the management as the leader can demonstrate to the team that learning from mistakes and quickly move forward is more important than keep spending time to analyze the causes of the problem without any action plan in response to the problem.
It is the top management’s responsibility to institute the positive-thinking culture into the team and eliminating the reactive approach to the business. By keep on changing the negative mindset to the positive one, the company can have more chance to stay in the market without much fear from the strong competitors. Let’s start from each individual and expand it throughout the whole organisation.
