Entertainment, media outlays tipped to reach $13 bn by 2021

Entertainment and media spending is expected to grow 5.9 per cent annually to reach US$13 billion (Bt433 billion) by 2021, according to PwC.

In PwC’s global entertainment and media outlook for 2017-21, E&M spending is projected rising from $1.9 trillion in 2016 to $2.3 trillion in 2021, representing annual growth of 4.2 per cent – down from 4.4 per cent in last year’s E&M outlook.
The latest outlook shows some emerging segments with robust growth, including virtual reality and e-sports.
But the E&M industry is facing a slowdown worldwide as competition intensifies and the advertising landscape evolves.
By 2021, total spending on Internet advertising in Thailand – one of the smallest markets in the region – is forecast to have increased 20.3 per cent annually to $725 million.
The market will gain from key factors including new household fixed-line broadband Internet subscribers, rising mobile Internet subscribers and social media.
