FALL IN OUTPUT LICENCES

A total of 455 factories, with Bt27.4 billion in investments, applied for manufacturing licences in August 2017, representing drops of 7.7 per cent and 32 per cent respectively from August 2016, according to Mongkol Pruekwatana, director-general of Industrial Works Department of Industry Ministry.

However, labour demand for the new manufacturing plants in August increased to 16,918 workers, up 23.06 per cent from August last year, he said.
“Many investors have delayed their decision, waiting for the announcement of the Eastern Economic Corridor act next month for incentives. Most are expected to apply for licences in the last quarter of this year and the first half of next year,” he said.
