CIMB ASEAN Stock Challenge back for an eighth year

The “CIMB ASEAN Stock Challenge” has returned for an eighth year for undergraduate teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia, along with Brunei, which is making its debut in the competition, CIMB Group announced on Monday.

The competition will challenge students to demonstrate their investment and analytical skills by trading with US$80,000 (Bt2.6 million) of virtual start-up capital across five major stock exchanges in the region: Bursa Malaysia, the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the Singapore Exchange, the Stock Exchange of Thailand and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
The Regional Champion will be crowned at the Grand Finale, to be held at the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Jakarta.
A total of $40,000 in prize money will be awarded to the winners of the national and regional rounds of the competition.
The Regional Champion team will also be awarded a study trip to the Tokyo Stock Exchange, said Dato’ Hamidah Naziadin, group chief people officer at Malaysia-based CIMB Group.
During the national round, the student teams compete to be ranked among the top three teams in their home country based on the highest percentage gain on their investments during the trading period, from October 9-27.
These top teams will then be judged based on their strategy papers, with the best team crowned National Champion for their country.
The Regional Champion will walk away with $12,000 and a trip to the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The first runner-up will win $8,000, the second runner-up $5,000, the third runner-up $2,500, the fourth runner-up $1,500 and the fifth runner-up $800.
