ECGO acquires 25% stake in Taiwan wind farm project

The Electricity Generating Public Co Ltd (EGCO Group) has completed the acquisition of a 25 per cent ownership interest in Yunlin Holding GmbH, which owns a 640-megawatt offshore wind farm project in Taiwan.

“Greenwing Energy BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of EGCO, successfully completed the acquisition of the interest in Yunlin from Taiwan Offshore Holding GmbH on Friday [April 17],” said Dr Gumpanart Bumroonggit, acting president of EGCO Group.
Yunlin is a holding company that wholly owns Taiwan’s Yunneng Wind Power Co Ltd, which is constructing a 640MW offshore wind farm in the Taiwan Strait approximately 8-kilometres off the coast of Yunlin county. The project covers approximately 90 square kilometres.
The commissioning of the project will take place in phases, with the first phase comprising 352MW scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of this year, and the second phase comprising 288MW set for completion in the third quarter of 2021.
“Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, EGCO Group has continuously and efficiently operated its business based on our ‘Business Continuity Plan’. This ensures that our work continues throughout the supply chain without any interruptions. Meanwhile, EGCO Group’s 28 power plants, both within Thailand and overseas, are still operating to deliver reliable electricity supply to everyone. We are ready to collaborate with the public sector and other organisations to the best of our ability to overcome this difficult situation,” said Gumpanart, who is also senior executive vice president for EGCO’s Strategy and Asset Management.
