Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings is expected to benefit the economy and strengthen international confidence in the country, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on Monday (October 5).
Sihasak said at Government House that nearly 400 senior figures from around the world are expected to attend, most of them finance ministers and central bank governors.
He said hosting such a major international gathering would benefit Thailand by helping build confidence and creating opportunities for discussions about the country’s economy.
Asked whether the meetings would help put Thailand back on the global radar, Sihasak said the country’s international engagement should not be viewed through a single event.
Thailand has participated in several important international forums, including meetings at the United Nations, where it has been able to present its positions on global developments and explain the direction of the country, he said.
Sihasak described those engagements as important opportunities for Thailand to strengthen its international presence.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to make a one-day visit to Singapore on October 7, where he will attend the Forbes Global CEO Conference and meet business leaders from around the world.
Sihasak said the forum would provide another opportunity to reinforce confidence in the Thai economy.
Forbes has confirmed that its 2026 Global CEO Conference will be held in Singapore on October 7–8, bringing together leading chief executives, entrepreneurs, investors and thought leaders.
Asked whether Thailand’s recent flooding and airport management problems could affect confidence, Sihasak said preparations would be needed, while stressing that investors would also assess Thailand from a longer-term perspective.
“These are issues that have to be managed, but they also have to look at the long term,” he said.
National Police Chief Pol Gen Samran Nuanma said police were fully prepared to provide security for senior participants attending the meetings.
He said there were no particular security concerns and that intelligence operations were continuing.
