US Federal Reserve (Fed) chairman Kevin Warsh is scheduled to discuss the global economy with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Bangkok on October 16, 2026. The 30-minute session follows talks between Warsh and Bank of Thailand (BOT) Governor Vitai Ratanakorn.
Vitai and Warsh met on October 15 to exchange views on economic and financial conditions and explore ways to develop cooperation between the two central banks.
Warsh and Georgieva are due to examine the forces reshaping the global economy, against a background of challenges and uncertainty affecting international economic and financial conditions.
The IMF’s official schedule lists the “Managing Director’s Fireside Chat with Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh” for 10.30–11am, Thailand time, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).
The 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings run from October 12–18 in Bangkok, bringing together economic and financial policymakers from around the world. QSNCC is the main venue, according to the World Bank’s meeting information.
Warsh took office as Fed chairman on May 22, 2026, for a four-year term ending on May 21, 2030, according to his official Federal Reserve biography. Warsh also chairs the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the central bank’s principal monetary policymaking body.
Warsh’s career began in the private financial sector after completing a bachelor’s degree at Stanford University in 1992 and a Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School in 1995. Warsh worked at Morgan Stanley from 1995 to 2002.
Warsh moved into government in 2002, serving as special assistant to the US president for economic policy and executive secretary of the National Economic Council until 2006. Warsh then served on the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors from 2006 to 2011, a period spanning the global financial crisis.
After leaving the Fed board, Warsh held an academic position at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, taught at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and became a partner at Duquesne Family Office.
Warsh’s views may help clarify the direction of US monetary policy, which influences global financial markets, exchange rates and cross-border capital flows. The effects on the baht and Thai financial markets also depend on other factors.
The IMF’s announcement confirms Warsh’s participation and the session’s timing. Any assessment of whether Warsh is signalling a future interest rate rise or cut must await his actual remarks.
