Public and private executive members express great interest in MG as Thailand’s first brand with its own EV battery assembly facility. Unwrapping the first locally-produced MG 4 Electric Thailand Edition.

SAIC Motor-CP and MG Sales (Thailand), manufacturer and distributor of MG cars in Thailand, welcome Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin along with 200 members of the cabinet and representatives from the public and private sectors at its car assembly and EV battery manufacturing plants on Saturday.

With a battery production capacity of 50,000 packs annually, the factories will serve as a proficient EV manufacturing base — a key “EV hub” for both domestic and international distribution especially in ASEAN.

As the true pioneer and EV leader in Thailand, the company also debuts the NEW MG4 ELECTRIC Thailand Edition as MG’s first EV model manufactured in the country.

Thanakorn Seriburi, Senior Vice Chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group and President of SAIC Motor-CP, said "SAIC Motor-CP and MG are extremely honoured and delighted to welcome over 200 visitors who are members of the cabinet led by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin; executive members from WHA Corporation Public Company Limited led by Chairman and Group CEO Jareeporn Jarukornsakul; as well as representatives from the public and private sectors for a visit to SAIC Motor-CP’s car manufacturing facility which spans across the area of 437.5 rais within WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2 (WHA ESIE 2) in Chonburi province."

The factory is capable of providing full manufacturing services — from internal combustion engines to alternative energy vehicles — with a total production capacity of 100,000 units per year for domestic and international distribution.

The factory also serves as a storage for spare parts and equipment for all MG models available in Thailand. Recently, a large area within the factory has been allocated and developed into the NEW ENERGY INDUSTRIAL PARK in response to the rising popularity of electric vehicles. All these movements have proven MG as the pioneer and leader committed to bringing Thailand’s EV industry to the next level."

SAIC Motor-CP was established for the manufacture of MG cars to be distributed in Thailand and to other ASEAN countries. Spanning across an area of over 437.5 rais in WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2 (WHA ESIE 2) in Chonburi province, the factory has a maximum production capacity of 100,000 units per year. The manufacturing plant comprises a General Assembly Shop, Paint Shop, and Body Shop with fully automated production lines to facilitate and enhance the efficiency of the production.

The automation technology also aims at quality control and safety enhancement throughout the production line as well as helps reduce energy use and pollution. Set aside the environmentally-friendly production line, the area also serves as a storage for spare parts for all MG models.

On 31 October 2023, a new EV battery factory was founded under the name of HASCO-CP BATTERY SHOP. Spanning across an area of around 75 rais in the NEW ENERGY INDUSTRIAL PARK, the battery manufacturing plant is divided into two major areas.

The first one is the battery assembly area which is fully automated through cutting-edge robotic technology to ensure accuracy. The second one is the battery standard testing area which incorporates over 60 screening processes.

The production line is capable of manufacturing up to 50,000 Cell-To-Pack battery units per year, with the quality equivalent to those produced on a global scale.

MG is an automotive brand that offers a wide range of electric vehicles in response to different lifestyles — from MG ZS EV, an electric SUV that makes EVs popular in Thailand; MG EP and MG ES, electric station wagons that offer more than just the look; the NEW MG4 ELECTRIC, a rear-wheel-drive electric hatchback; to the NEW MG MAXUS 9, a seven-seat 100% electric luxury MPV.

Furthermore, the company has also invested in strengthening the EV ecosystem especially the nationwide expansion of MG SUPER CHARGE as well as domestic EV battery development which already succeeds. As one of Thailand’s first automotive brands with locally-produced electric vehicles, MG also debuts the NEW MG4 ELECTRIC Thailand Edition as the first model to be manufactured and distributed domestically. This production line is separated exclusively for electric vehicles under the company’s mission to become the “EV hub” in ASEAN.

" Realizing the potential and growing opportunities for Thailand’s EV market, MG is heading in full gear to bring Thailand’s EV industry to the global scale with our commitment to develop all aspects of EV ecosystem so that the country becomes a full-fledged EV society.
