Singapore Airlines clinches its sixth World's Best Airline title at the 2026 Skytrax Awards, while Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways secure top honours.

 

Singapore Airlines has reclaimed the top spot as the world's best airline at the 2026 World Airline Awards, marking the sixth time the flag carrier has secured the industry’s most prestigious title.

 

Widely regarded as the "Oscars of the aviation industry", the awards were presented on 18th September 2026 during a gala ceremony at The Langham Hotel in London.

 

Hosted by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax, the event brought together airline Chairmen, Chief Executives, and Presidents from across the globe.

 

Alongside the overall title, Singapore Airlines also dominated key cabin categories, sweeping awards for the World’s Best Economy Class and World’s Best Economy Class Onboard Catering.

Strong Performance from Thai Carriers

Thailand’s aviation sector delivered a formidable showing at the 2026 awards, led by regional player Bangkok Airways and national carrier Thai Airways.

 

Bangkok Airways secured the title of World’s Best Regional Airline for a remarkable tenth consecutive year, whilst also retaining its position as the Best Regional Airline in Asia.

 

Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, president of Bangkok Airways, remarked, "This recognition reflects the trust that passengers around the world have continued to place in Bangkok Airways over the years... I would like to dedicate this achievement to all our employees, whose commitment and attention to detail help make every journey safe, seamless, and memorable."

 

Flag carrier Thai Airways demonstrated its strong international standing by securing 20th place in the overall global rankings. Additionally, the airline earned a spot in the top 10 for the World’s Best Cabin Crew, placing 10th globally in customer service excellence.

Asia-Pacific and ASEAN Leaders Dominating the Skies Airlines across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and South East Asia (ASEAN) regions maintained a commanding presence in the upper echelons of the 2026 global rankings.

 

AirAsia retained its long-standing dominance as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for a record 17th consecutive year. Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes cited the airline's resilience and agility amidst geopolitical headwinds as key drivers of its continued success.

 

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, was named World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline for the sixth year running.

 

 

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways took 3rd place overall, winning the coveted World’s Best Cabin Crew title alongside World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge for its newly transformed The Wing lounge.

 

Japan’s ANA All Nippon Airways placed 4th globally and picked up the award for World’s Best Airport Services, while Japan Airlines stood firm at 9th globally.

 

Taiwan's EVA Air (ranked 11th) secured a trio of titles: World’s Most Family Friendly Airline, World’s Best Premium Economy Class, and World’s Best Premium Economy Class Amenities.

 

STARLUX Airlines (ranked 13th) was named World’s Cleanest Airline and maintained its 5-Star Airline rating for a second consecutive year.

 

Malaysia Airlines secured the award for Best Airline Staff Service in Asia and achieved 3rd place for World's Best Cabin Crew.

 

Australia’s Qantas Airways (ranked 12th) took home regional honours as the Best Airline in Australia / Pacific and Best Airline Staff Service in Australia / Pacific.

Middle East: Qatar Airways and Saudia Excel

Last year’s global winner, Qatar Airways, placed 2nd worldwide in 2026. The Middle Eastern giant picked up four major accolades, including World’s Best Business Class (for the 13th time), Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class Lounge (for its Al Mourjan Lounge - The Garden), and the inaugural award for World’s Best Onboard Wi-Fi.

 

Saudi Arabia’s Saudia won Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East, while low-cost carrier Flynas retained its crown as Best Low-Cost Airline in the Middle East for the ninth consecutive year.

 

 

 

Europe: Turkish Airlines and Air France Lead Premium Offerings

Turkish Airlines placed 5th in the global top 10 and was named Best Airline in Europe for the 11th time. The carrier also collected awards for World’s Best Business Class Catering and Best Airline in Southern Europe.

 

Air France (ranked 7th) demonstrated its focus on ultra-premium travel, sweeping three major categories: World’s Best First Class, World’s Best First Class Lounge Dining, and World’s Best First Class Comfort Amenities, alongside the award for Best Airline in Western Europe.

 

In the low-cost market, International Airlines Group (IAG) carrier Vueling triumphed for the first time as Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe. Spanish carrier Iberia (ranked 16th) won Best Airline Staff Service in Europe, while LOT Polish Airlines took the title for Best Airline in Central Europe.

 

 

Americas and Africa Regional Highlights

In North America, Air Canada (ranked 17th) claimed Best Airline in North America, with its Toronto Pearson Signature Suite winning Best Business Class Lounge Dining.

Allegiant Air was named Best Low-Cost Airline in North America for the third year running, and Air Transat earned World’s Best Leisure Airline for the eighth time.

 

South America’s LATAM Airlines scooped two major regional awards: Best Airline in South America and Best Airline Staff Service in South America, whilst ultra-low-cost carrier JetSMART won Best Low-Cost Airline in South America.

 

In Africa, Ethiopian Airlines continued its regional dominance, taking home Best Airline in Africa for the seventh consecutive year. RwandAir received Best Airline Staff Service in Africa, FlySafair was named Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa, and EGYPTAIR was awarded World’s Most Improved Airline.
