Nanmeebooks, a leading publisher of reference books in science and mathematics and of Go Genius magazine, yesterday officially opened the Nanmeebooks Learning Centre at its headquarters on Sukhumvit Road Soi 31.

The centre is aimed at strengthening the company’s leadership in scientific learning and youth development.
The grand opening ceremony of Nanmeebooks Learning Centre was graciously presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Suwadee Chongsatitwatana, managing director of Nanmeebooks, said the company had published reference books in science and mathematics for almost two decades.
“We will have our 20th anniversary next year. We are also the first publishing firm in Thailand issuing such science and mathematics books, as we have seen it as essential for Thailand to focus on knowledge development for children, especially in science and engineering,” Suwadee said.

She said the company’s publishing and educational business had at first targeted children aged between 10 and 15 years. However, it has expanded its target customer base to preschool students, secondary-school students, and adults.
Suwadee said Nanmeebooks had held between 100 and 200 sessions every year to train teachers and parents, together with other scientific learning activities such as science shows and camps.

The company also launched a special preschool project called the “Little Scientists’ House” in Bangkok about two years ago, in cooperation with The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation. As the name implies, the educational facility is a place where children conduct scientific experiments within the framework of an early-learning programme. The concept was developed under the auspices of the Helmholtz Association in Germany.

Suwadee said the Nanmeebooks Learning Centre contained 25 different learning stations divided into three major zones: Nanmeebooks Hands-on Science Centre, which was created in association with the Phaenomenta science centre in Germany; Nanmeebooks Kiddie Intelligence Centre; and Science Experiment Classroom in association with Japanese publishing company Gakken.

“The opening of Nanmeebooks Learning Centre is part of Nanmeebooks’ vision to go beyond just being a publishing company. It is in line with our strategy to encourage innovative learning activities for children and youth,” Suwadee said.
She said the learning centre was expected to provide educational service to about 100,000 students from more than 2,000 schools annually.
