Darunee reports to police

Fugitive redshirt Darunee Kritboonyalai turned herself in to police Tuesday to face a charge of violating Internal Security Act during the political riots last year.

She denied the charges and was freed after testifying to police for about an hour.

She was freed without bail because she received a summons to meet with police and was not served with an arrest warrant. Some 100 red shirts gathered at Lumpini police station to give her moral support. She sang a song before she left the police station.
Darunee declined to reveal where she took refuge after escaping from Rachaprasong Intersection, the site of the red shirts’ protest. She fled the scene immediately after the army dispersed the protesters in May last year.
“I stayed a bit here and a bit there. However I had regular contacts with the red shirts leaders in Thailand,” she told reporters.
Darunee appeared for the first time in public late last month just prior to the ThaiCambodia friendly football match in Phnom Penh, which had Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen as a player.
Another red shirt fugitive, Arisman Pongruengrong, also appeared during the event. It is believed that Cambodia has provided sanctuary for the red shirt leaders who escaped the dispersal of the red shirts, as Hun Sen and exThai PM Thaksin Shinawatra enjoy a close relationship.
