Tul to impeach Foreign Minister Surapong

Multicolour-shirt leader Tul Sithisomwong yesterday moved to impeach Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul for issuing a passport to fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Tul met Senate Speaker Teeradej Meepien to formalise his intent to seek Surapong’s dismissal as per the Constitution.
He accused Surapong of abuse of power in repealing the passport ban so that Thaksin could be returned the travel document in October, an offence under Article 157 of the Criminal Code.
A campaign would be launched to collect 20,000 signatures from voters for an impeachment petition to be lodged with the Senate for forwarding to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
If the NACC’s investigation finds grounds to suspect foul play, the impeachment trial would commence.
