Pub faces closure

A team of 50 police yesterday inspected the Excite Pub in Bangkok's Bang Kho Laem district at 1am yesterday, after a brawl among patrons at the pub led to the Friday morning car chase and accident in which five people were killed.

Wat Phrayakrai police station superintendent Pol Colonel Kiatnarong Chalermboon said police would ask the Metropolitan Police Bureau chief tomorrow to order the pub closed for 60 days, as its opening beyond legal closing time had led to the violence. Passengers in a Honda Civic chased and opened fire at a pickup truck, which crashed into a road island.
Car owner Ekkarin Nilbai, 19, has surrendered to police, but three of his friends are still sought. Weerayuth Charoonreung, 24, Saksit Wannapahul, 21, and Warut Paladet, 23, had yet to turn themselves in, Rat Burana deputy superintendent Pol Lt-Colonel Chattra Pasuwan said. The three were wanted for carrying and firing guns without permission and attempted murder.
In related news, another brawl led to a large group of youths on motorcycles chasing a rival group’s pickup truck and firing at it with a rifle, causing the truck to crash on Samut Songkram’s new bypass road at 2.20am yesterday, killing three people and injuring two others. Police collected 39 spent cartridges from the scene.
