Bt20bn to be sought from Cabinet Tuesday

The committee in charge of rehabilitating flood victims will Tuesday ask the Cabinet to approve more than Bt20 billion for several rehabilitation projects.

The committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, held a meeting at the Interior Ministry to screen rehabilitation projects proposed by several government agencies.
Deputy Transport Minister Chat Kuldilok and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Peecha Rengsomboonsuk also attended the meeting.
Yongyuth said his panel approved projects for transport infrastructure rehabilitation worth Bt559 million.
The panel also approved projects for rehabilitating government agencies and infrastructure worth Bt4.2 billion, another Bt1.5 billion for the rehabilitation of religious and ancient sites as well as Bt1.5 billion for school repairs.
He said the panel also approved projects for water resources and irrigation management worth Bt5.7 billion and approved the request of the Royal Thai Police for Bt194.71 million for its flood rehabilitation plan.
A source from the meeting said the Royal Thai Air Force also asked the panel to approve an additional Bt103 million for the replacement of for pilot trainee uniforms ruined in the floodwaters.
The request led to a debate among panel members who eventually decided against approving the request. Earlier, the Air Force demanded more than Bt10 billion for its rehabilitation projects but the Yongyuth panel approved only Bt3.2 billion for the Air Force.
