No big changes ahead in military line-up

Defence Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat yesterday cited his inspection of guards to showcase his solidarity with the Army and dismissed concern about there being a purge in the April military line-up.

“The armed forces will this week or next submit their respective lists for job rotation and I don’t foresee any problems since it will be a minor reshuffle,” he said.

Sukampol was paying a visit to the Supreme Command Headquarters, where he inspected the guard of honour from the Army, Navy and the Air Force on the occasion of his assuming office.
He said he was proud to visit and took note of the progress the armed forces have made since he retired from the military.
He said commanders had asked him to help push for an upgrade in the weaponry, adding that he was looking forward to working with the top brass to ensure that the country’s armed forces are prepared.
The procurement of submarines is currently being vetted and the Army also wants to boost the deployment of Blackhawk helicopters, he said, adding that he would look into the allocation of funds for recovery projects of the Air Force, which was hit by the last year’s flood crisis.
