DSI takes over cold medicine embezzlement cases

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has now taken over the cases involving the embezzlement of pseudoephedrine-containing medicines at state hospitals based on a suspicion that millions of missing tablets have been used to produce methamphetamin

Pol Lt Colonel Pongin Inthornkhao, who heads the DSI Bureau of Security Crime, said primary investigations showed some 45 million pseudoephedrine-containing tablets went missing from hospitals.
“We will trace to where these medicines were sent to and whether they ended up in the hands of drug manufacturers,” he said.
DSI investigation will target 22 hospitals in many provinces including Bangkok, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai and Nakhon Pathom. These state-owned medical facilities have reportedly ordered an unusually high number of the pseudoephedrine-containing tablets during the past few years.
