According to Philippine observers, Sunday's polls in Myanmar were "orderly, free and transparent" and a "breakthrough in the country's modern history," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement congratulated Myanmar on the vote, calling it "a milestone in what appears to be Myanmar's inexorable march toward democracy."
"Encouraged by this development, the Philippines reiterates its call for the international community to favourably consider the lifting of current sanctions against Myanmar," it added.//DPA
